John 16:33 (KJV) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Jesus said that the times preceding His return would get more and more tense. There would be many negative reports and hardships, and the times would be fearful and people would be fainting from fear because of what they hear and see. But, He said see that you are not overcome by these things. He said he has warned us of these things in advance so that we could take refuge in Him and have peace in the midst of a world filled with turmoil.
In order for believers to overcome, we are going to have to get serious now more than ever at resisting the devil and his lies and take every thought of death, theft and destruction captive and cast it out. If the devil can figure out how to steal from you, he will. If he can figure out how to destroy your life, he will. If he can find an opportunity to kill you, he will. It's easy to believe in life to the full and abundant life when things are going good. However, that same abundant life is still there to possess and enjoy when times are not good. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Let His peace rule and reign on the inside of you. Take every negative and evil thought captive and cast it out. Replace it with a promise from God's word and let your treasures be in heaven, not in the material things of this world. God has created you for such a time as this to be an over-comer, not to be overcome. It doesn't happen automatically though, you have to be a warrior and lay hold of it forcefully. Take heart, be of good cheer, DON'T GIVE UP - Jesus has overcome the world, and we can overcome through Him!
