Put the Word into Action

Hebrews 12:1-2 (Amplified Bible) THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us, Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Everyone has a purpose, and everyone has a part in God's plan. But the race that God has for you to run can only be done by keeping your eyes on Jesus. You can't even begin to run your race if Jesus is not your personal Lord and Savior. But once you get on the path, the one thing that will slow you down and trip you up, is sin. Sin is "missing the mark", or simply put, "not doing what the Word says to do." Those who do what the word says to do are the ones who will be blessed. When you are a doer of the Word, you will be blessed in what you do. You will make your way prosperous and you will have good success. When it comes to the Word of God, determine today to not just be one that hears only, but one that takes it a step further and puts it into action.

Mirror, Mirror

Deuteronomy 6:14 (NKJV) You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you

For many of us, if we want to see the object of our affection, we need only look in a mirror. Take a look around. How many people can you think of where you can say without hesitation, “That person lives for God first?” There are some. But the majority of us are first and foremost living for ourselves, and the desires of the flesh. Take a good, honest look in the mirror. How much do you do for that body? You make sure it gets food, clothing, and shelter. Do you appease it when it cries for entertainment, excitement, or anything else it wants? Now put God in the mirror with you. Does He show through in you, your actions, and attitudes? Can His light be seen in your eyes? Is who He is reflected in your life, or does He get crowded out by your reflection? It is a sad condition many of us may see ourselves in, when we have to honestly say, I seem to love myself more than God. I seem to love myself more then the body of Christ. But with Christ, we can find the means to love even as He loved us. But first, we must be willing.

Faith In Action

James 1:22-25 (NKJV) 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Those who take what they hear and put it into practice are those who will be blessed. When you hear or read the word, it is like looking into a mirror. You see the things you need to change and you get a revelation on the things you need to be doing. However, when faith rises up in you and you neglect to put that faith into action, it's like walking away from the mirror and forgetting everything you just saw. But those who take that word and sow it, that is, put it into action, they bear fruit - some thirty, some sixty and some a hundred fold. Be encouraged that as you put your faith into action, you will be blessed in what you do.

Offended

James 5:16 (Amplified Bible) Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

I don’t mean to sound ugly , But get over it. Every day each of us has an opportunity to be offended at something or someone. And each of us in the natural handles our offenses differently. Some of us just don’t let offenses affect us. We have the ability to let them roll off of us like water on a duck’s back. While on the other hand some of us live them over and over and over. Do you realize that being offended at someone only hurts you? It does not affect the person who has caused the offence. The effects of a church member becoming offended many times is caused by someone simply misinterpreting what another said. Then there are those that are just looking for something to be offended at. Then there are those that are looking to offend. We must keep a guard on our tongue and weigh out every word before it leaves our mouth. Once spoken, words cannot be recaptured, and the results can be disastrous. The enemy would like nothing better then to destroy the unity of the church. If he can keep Christians bickering, fighting, and becoming offended with each other, then he has succeeded in dividing the church. He has won a victory! For the good of the body we need to bind together, not pull apart. There is power in a united effort. Look around where are we headed ?

Jesus Is The Way

John 14:6 (KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Many people are looking for the answers to life. They search for "what works for them" in many different philosophies, religions and ideas. Whether they realize it or not, they are searching for God. God in His mercy has given us the answer. He has provided the way. Jesus is the door that leads home. He is the way to eternal life, peace, joy, hope and contentment. The question has been answered. So why is the answer so offensive? Many have asked the question "Why does Jesus have to be the only way?" Let's think of it like this: if you were in a burning building looking for a way out and someone showed you the door that would lead to safety, why would you ignore the door and try to crawl out the window? When the door is right in front of you, why would you want to try to get out through a floor vent or a make a hole in the ceiling? Jesus is the way. He is the door that leads to what you are looking for.

Hearing His Voice

And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers. - John 10:4-5

Learning to recognize the voice of the Lord has to do with building a relationship and spending time with Him. The more you spend time in prayer and listening with your spiritual ear to what God is saying, the more you will recognize His voice. When you hear the voice of a spouse or loved one, not only do you recognize their voice, but there is a sense of devotion and love that you feel when you hear it. The more you are devoted to God, the more you'll be able to recognize His voice because you'll recognize the love and devotion within it, and when the enemy starts feeding you lies, negative thoughts, deceptive thoughts and thoughts that tear you down and condemn you, you will know that it is the enemy talking because there is no love or devotion attached to it. If you think you have trouble hearing from God or recognizing His voice, begin to spend more time with Him in prayer and reading His word. Then, let your confession be "I can hear the voice of God, I do hear the voice of God and the voice of a stranger I will not listen to!"

Accepted, Not Condemned

For God did not send His Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him. - John 3:17 (Amplified)

God is for you, not against you. He sent Jesus to show us His love and to extend His mercy and grace to us. Often times, religion and tradition has painted a picture of a God who hates the world and is waiting for us to approach Him so He can judge and condemn us for our mistakes. Ignorantly, we've made God out to be an old miser with a bull whip just waiting for us to get out of line so He can smack us a good one. But praise God, He actually provides salvation, hope and safety and is ready to accept, love and forgive all who come to Him. Remind yourself today, that through Jesus, your are accepted, justified and sanctified by the finished work of redemption of the cross.

Your Time Is Now

Acts 17:26 (NKJV) And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,

Have you ever thought that maybe you were born too late, or maybe too early? I used to think I should have lived 100 years ago back when this country was still being settled and explored. God knows best. He has created us to live in such a time as this. He has a plan and a purpose for everyone and has each one of us in the place we are for a reason. Be encouraged today, knowing that you are living in the time that God has planned. He has created you with unique gifts, talents and abilities to accomplish all that you were designed to do and fulfill. Ask the Lord to show you what your purpose is, and know that the time for you is NOW!

Be On Guard

Nehemiah 4:17 (NKJV) Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon.

Never forget that as you go about fulfilling your assignment and destiny that the Lord has called you to in expanding His kingdom in the earth, that there is a spiritual battle going on 24/7. The devil is seeking whom he may devour, as he comes to kill, steal and destroy. He's firing off his flaming arrows of lies and deceptions hoping he will catch someone with their guard down. However, our weapons are not physical weapons, but spiritual and full of divine power for demolishing strongholds. That's why you need to pray in the name of Jesus - the name above all names. Speak the blood of Jesus over you and yours every day - the blood cleanses all unrighteousness and nothing can penetrate it. Speak the Word of God - it's the sword of the spirit, a double edge sword. One edge is to sharpen you, the other is to cut the devil off. Then, praise God that He has placed His angels all around you and that He is a wall of fire of protection around you. Finally, never let your guard down. Always guard your heart and be alert concerning the subtle schemes of the devil to bring in strife, contention and division into your life. Be quick to repent, and quick to forgive. Give no place to the devil.

Faith and Patience

Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth? - Luke 18:8

People go to court every day involving themselves in lawsuits and trials that will take months and years to resolve. Athletes spend weeks, months and years training to be the best they can be. People go to doctors and get prescriptions to take pills for days and weeks for an ailment. People do all sorts of things and submit themselves to strict regiments in order to obtain a certain goal. They are willing to do what it takes to get the results they are desiring. But so many times they try and act on what God says one or two times and give up without results. Why? Because it is through faith and patience that we receive or inherit the promises of God. In other words, it's through believing and controlled power. It's believing that what God said is true for you, and it's the controlled power that keeps you from straying off course and giving up. Now is not the time to throw in the towel, stay the course.

Itching Ears

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (Amplified Bible) For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold, And will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions.

It seems that the world around us is filled with people who gravitate toward those who speak, teach, or “say what their itching ears want to hear.” Even within the church we must contend with such attitudes and the seeping in of worldly philosophy and unsound doctrine. In some congregations, it would seem they present and package to please—careful not to offend—watering down the Word of God in the process. But the Church is not here to promote popular viewpoints, draw crowds, or to entertain in order to keep high attendance, as I have seen some churches do. Good intentions or not, nowhere in the Bible will we find that we should use the world’s methods to achieve spiritual goals. God’s “ways are higher...” (Isaiah 55:9). And in His Church, His way is the only way we should be seeking.

You're An Overcomer!

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, - our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. - 1 John 5:4-5

With Jesus as our Lord, we have the God-given ability to overcome any problem we may face. Anything that could possibly happen in this world, God has provided the means to overcome it through Jesus Christ. Our focus should not be on how big the problem is, but on God's promise that we can overcome it. So today make a decision to not worry or focus on problems, but on the fact that by faith in Jesus Christ, you are a world over-comer!

The Right Path

You will show me the path of life - Psalm 16:11

It is written that the road to destruction is wide and many are on it, but the path to life is narrow and there are few that find it. How do you know, day by day, if you are on the path that leads to life or the road to destruction? The very simple answer is, if you've confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life and believe in your inner most being that God raised Him from the dead, you are on the path that leads to life - life eternal. There is also the path of blessing. You can be on the path of life, but not experiencing the blessings of God in your life everyday. How do you know if you are on that path or not? God says we will find Him when we seek Him with all of our heart. Jesus said if you abide in Me and My words abide in you, then you will produce much fruit. God said "blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor sit in the seat of the scornful, nor stand in the path of sinners". God will show you the path of life, and the one who delights himself in the Lord will see the blessings of God. When you put Jesus first place in every area of your life, and you seek God for every decision you make, and if you listen for His voice and His direction then put it into practice and do it, you will be on His path and you will be blessed in what you do.

Speak Life

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

You have been made in the image of God. You have the ability to speak words that build up, or words that destroy. When you speak encouraging words, those words will come back to you. When you speak positive or negative words, those words have the ability to affect your outlook and attitude. Many fights have been fought and many people have been comforted all with words. Today, choose your words carefully. Think about the words you will say to yourself and those around you, and how those words will affect the lives around you. They will either build up or tear down. You have the opportunity and ability to speak life into someone's situation today, because you have the "life giver" living on the inside of you!

Words Attract

Matthew 12:35 (NKJV) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

Have you ever noticed how some people are positive and upbeat, and no matter what comes their way they always seem to come out on top? Then there are others who have their ups and downs, and they just barely get by? And then there are those who are always negative and nothing good ever happens to them? Much of that has to do with the words they speak. What they meditate on, the thoughts they entertain and the things they think about will affect the words they speak. Before long, those words begin to attract those types of things and circumstances. In other words, they will produce or bring forth what they are saying. They will have what they say when they believe it in their heart, whether it be good, mediocre or evil. Words have power. Use your words to produce what is good. God has given us the choice to choose life or death, the blessing or the curse. Choose wisely, choose life.

Let Your Light Shine

Matthew 5:14-16 (The Message) Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

There is no question--"You are the light of the world." Jesus did not say "you might be the light of the world," or "you are the light of the world one day--but maybe not the next." As a follower of Jesus Christ, a believer and disciple of His teachings, you are the light of the world. To be a Christian means to be light--the two cannot be separated. Jesus instructs, "let your light shine before men." Although we are the light of the world, we must do what is necessary to let our light shine. We must keep the light fueled. A flame will not burn if there is nothing feeding it. Our source of fuel is Christ Himself, for He is the true Light and He is the Life of the light that He has placed within us. Don't let others try to dim your light.

Christ In You

Colossians 1:26-27 (Amplified Bible) The mystery of which was hidden for ages and generations [from angels and men], but is now revealed to His holy people (the saints), To whom God was pleased to make known how great for the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ within and among you, the Hope of [realizing the] glory.
God has promised to meet all your needs according to His riches in glory, by Christ Jesus. Are those riches silver or gold? Are they precious stones? No, God says that His riches are all in Christ. Jesus is the riches. All things are by Him and for Him. All the fullness dwells in Him. Every need you have is met by Jesus and through Jesus. Without Him, every need you have can not be met. That's why Jesus said that when you abide in Him and His words abide in you, ask what you wish and it shall be granted. Abiding in Him is the key, and you can't abide in Him if He is not abiding in you. God is saying that the way to get your needs met is by Christ in you! It's not about seeking "things", it's about seeking Him. When you have Jesus, you have it all!

Looking Out For Others

Philippians 2:1-4 (The Message) If you've gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

The world is full of people who are self-centered and only look out for "number one". There are those that love to talk about themselves but never have the time to lend an ear to anyone else. People enter in to crooked business deals everyday only concerned about how they can profit personally. The attitude is that it's their world and everyone else is just living in it. As a child of God, you are not created to be a part of that darkness. You have been reborn with the light of Jesus shining from the inside of you. You are a light in a dark place. You can show the love of God to someone by helping them with their needs. Find someone and encourage them to realize and reach their goals and dreams. As you stretch yourself in this area, you will find that God is also causing your needs to be met and your dreams and goals to come to pass.

Falling Apart?

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. - Colossians 1:16-18

No one knows a product better than the original manufacturer. Even the mechanics who work on automobiles are taught and educated by the factories that built them. God has created everything. He made you and the very air that you breathe. His desire is to be first place in your life. If life seems like it is falling apart at every turn, there is a way to get it fixed. Put it back in the hands of the manufacturer. Put Jesus first place in your life. In Him all things hold together. When we take the time to seek Him first in all things, He will help us make the most out of life. If life is falling apart, let Jesus put it all back together.

Witness In The Workplace

Titus 2:9-10 (Amplified Bible) 9[Tell] bond servants to be submissive to their masters, to be pleasing and give satisfaction in every way. [Warn them] not to talk back or contradict, 10Nor to steal by taking things of small value, but to prove themselves truly loyal and entirely reliable and faithful throughout, so that in everything they may be an ornament and do credit to the teaching [which is] from and about God our Savior.

Fast forward 2000 years. The relationship between slave and master can be compared respectively to employee and employer. The best witness you can give in the workplace is one of character, integrity, honesty and service. No one is going to want to hear about your Jesus if you are not displaying His character. Jesus came to serve, not to be served. When your boss sees your work ethics, regardless of his beliefs, it should send a message to him or her that as a Christian, you are there to make your place of employment better. When you work as working for the Lord, not for man, it should cause you to have a better attitude than the non-believer because your job is one of your places of ministry. It is one of your mission fields. It all goes back to the foundation of seeking first the kingdom. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy. When you're seeking right position with God, you'll choose integrity, honesty and service over lying, stealing, cheating and laziness. Ask God daily to show you as a Christian, how you can make your workplace better. It will be a witness to those who employ you. To God be the glory!
