I think it is a terrible truth how much Christian activity is lived like an appointment penciled in—easily erased if something of seeming greater importance comes along. Quiet times with our Lord, Bible study, quality prayer time, and serving God are so very often the casualties in the competition for our time and attention. And for what? For what things do the things of God take second place. I am seldom late for work, or a doctor’s appointment, or the start time of my favorite television show. Why is it I hold my appointments with God with less esteem? Each time with God is crucial to my existence—every moment with Him is vital for my life, health, and happiness. I lay down with the best intentions that tomorrow will be better, and when the day progresses, too often I am erasing again my appointment with Him, and say to myself, “Maybe tomorrow…”
